Author Debbie Freeman

Debbie Freeman has a BA and MS in elementary education, and has taught students in the U.S., Belgium, and Okinawa. Besides devouring history and writing for children, she creates stick horses—Heritage Hobby Horses—that go with her stories. She lived in the eastern Wyoming foothills for years with her husband where they enjoyed hikes and kayaking in the nature that surrounded them.

Now retired, Debbie resides in Florida with her husband and still takes sojourns to the West to keep her “Wyoming frame of mind”—and to snow ski!

After returning in 2016 from a Department of Defense Schools teaching position in Belgium, Debbie went to University of Washington to receive a certification in Museum Studies. There, she began research into Westward Expansion and its impact on the 1800s frontier. This led to creating a line of historic toy stick horses and being asked to write a children’s book about the importance of pack mules in America – past and present.

Debbie was an elementary teacher and loves reading aloud to students and using picture books to create deeper understanding of topics in social studies and language arts. She has the same intention and focus when writing her own children’s books.
